Is Matatu Classic free to download?
Yes. The app is free to download, and free games and practice against the computer cost nothing.
Which phones does it work on?
Android phones running Android 6.0 or newer. The app is small (about 6 MB) and is built to run smoothly on everyday Android phones.
Why isn’t it on the Google Play Store?
Matatu Classic is installed directly from matatuclassic.com. Android asks for permission the first time you install an app from your browser — our install guide shows you how. Only download the app from matatuclassic.com.
How do I sign in?
Sign in with your Google account, then add your Ugandan phone number (10 digits starting with 0). Your number is used for mobile money and is never shown to other players.
Do I need internet to play?
Online matches need an internet connection. Practice against the computer works offline, so you can play anywhere.
How do deposits and withdrawals work?
Money matches use your Matatu Classic balance. You deposit and withdraw with MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money by approving the prompt on your phone with your PIN. Withdrawals are checked before they are sent.
What happens if I run out of time?
Each move has a 25-second timer. Your phone vibrates from 10 seconds left, and if the timer reaches zero you lose the game.
How do you stop cheating?
Our server deals every card and checks every move, so the app on your phone can’t change cards, results or balances. Opponents never see your hand or your phone number.
Who can play for money?
Only adults aged 18 or over. Please play responsibly and only with money you can afford to spend.
Payment questions
Check Wallet → All activity first — every deposit, stake, win and withdrawal is listed with its status and Ref code.
Stay safe
We will never ask for your mobile money PIN, your Google password or for money to “unlock” your account.
